Conceptboard is a cool new online workspace. It’s a fluid online collaborative board that allows its users to freely draw, upload documents, and place images freely. There is a discussion feature as well. Conceptboard looks like a great tool to get a group project done! The process of adding media and files is to simply drag and drop files from your computer to your board! You can have up to 25 boards for free.

I spent a wonderful weekend in West Virginia at NAEA's Team East Retreat which is a leadership conference for the Eastern Region of the National Art Education Association. There were many great ideas, much inspiration, and tremendous collaboration as we created visual Journals throughout the entire structure of our time together at Team East. The Visual journaling process is such a great way to problem solve. Our journals were by our sides.........being worked on as we multitasked! It was interesting to watch the journals develop and connect our concerns, thoughts and ideas within our art. My students work on visual journals, sketchbooks throughout the whole school year and I’m always looking for new resources. Here are a few……

Visual Journaling resources:

“The Journal Junkies workshop” by Eric M Scott and David R Modler…. Their website

“Inside Great Creators Notebooks” from Brain Pickings

Visual Journaling

Artists Sketchbooks online

Undercover Artists Sketchbooks

Edward Hopper’s Sketchbook

A few months ago I posted a piece about Vivian Maier who is a recently discovered street photographer who ‘s work is changing the face of photography history as it’s written today. Her story is quite interesting. She is an unknown and her prolific work was found by accident by real estate agent John Maloof at an auction. Recently a new collection of self portraits have been added to the online collection of her works.

The Circus at PBS Teachers is about life in the Big Apple circus. The movement and visuals are a great way for students to visualize the experience. I have used the Circus theme within my classroom in many ways. To teach anatomy and movement within drawing to the art of the Circus poster in Graphic design. Kids of all ages love the circus and it can be an inspiring theme! As far as PBS teachers…..they have an excellent Arts resource section which I have mentioned here before. It’s organized by media filter, resources, discussions, professional development, and grade level.
